For these protocols the runner will complete each run on a treadmill using the Live Assessment session.
Please seek the guidance of the appropriate medical professional before carrying out the tests below. Please note the runner does not need to perform all 4 of the running tests and should only run for distances, and at speeds, they are comfortable with.
Warm-up
Ask the runner to run on the treadmill at a self-selected comfortable running pace for 6 minutes to normalise their gait.
Jogging
This test can be performed independently of the other running tests or as part of a wider running assessment
- Select appropriate running speed (approx.60% of runners maximum) and allow the runner to get up to speed.
- Open the test window in the software
- Runner to run at least 200 yards (if possible) but can run for as long (distance or time) as the tester believes in clinically relevant or based around the runner capabilities.
- When the runner has completed the agreed time or distance the test window can be closed.
- The software will automatically move to the next test – Running
At this point the runner can either continue to be tested by increasing the speed on the treadmill, rest for as long as needed before continuing testing or the testing can be stopped.
Running
This test can be selected independently of all the other tests or can be performed as part of a wider assessment.
- Select a running speed that is appropriate for the runner being tested (approx. 80% of maximum).
- Follow the procedure outlined above for Jogging.
Sprinting
This test can be selected independently of all the other tests or can be performed as part of a wider assessment
- Select a running speed that is appropriate for the runner being tested (approx. 100% of maximum).
- Follow the procedure outlined above for jogging.
Steady / Distance run
Ask the runner to perform one run at their normal training speed for a set distance. Ideally the
distance needs to be long enough so the runner will start to fatigue by the end of the run.
- Select test speed
- Open test window in the software
- Runner completes agreed distance
- Close test window in the software
It is important to note that the algorithm was not developed using data from running on a treadmill. An individual’s running style may differ on a treadmill compared to land, and therefore the results may not be comparable. While the estimation of metrics by the running algorithm is not expected to change for treadmill running, no validation has been performed in this environment. dorsaVi is not liable for any discrepancies between our validation results and data obtained on the treadmill.
Please note that it is not advisable to perform and Acceleration / Deceleration test on a treadmill.
