Neck Live Assessment

The subject is asked to perform 8 movement tests which are repeated 3 times each. Cervico/thoracic posture is also measured in a range of positions. The subject is positioned in a comfortable office chair with feet touching floor and knees flexed to 90 degrees. Note that each movement is captured in a separate window. Closing the window will automatically take you to the next test.

Flexion
Bend neck forward as for as possible, bringing your chin to your chest. Hold for 2 seconds then return to your starting position.
Repeat 3 times.

Extension
Bend neck backwards as far as possible, looking up to the ceiling. Hold for 2 seconds then return to your starting position.
Repeat 3 times.

Left Rotation
Turn your head as far to the left as possible. Hold for 2 seconds then return to your starting position. 
Repeat 3 times.

Right Rotation
Turn your head as far to the left as possible. Hold for 2 seconds then return to your starting position.
Repeat 3 times.

Left Lateral Flexion
Take your left ear down toward your left shoulder. Try not to hitch up your right shoulder. Hold for 2 seconds then return to your starting position.
Repeat 3 times.

Right Lateral Flexion
Take your right ear down toward your right shoulder. Try not to hitch up your left shoulder. Hold for 2 seconds then return to your starting position.
Repeat 3 times.

Upper Cervical Spine Flexion
Nod your head as far forward as possible. Hold for 2 seconds then return to your starting position.
Repeat 3 times.

Protraction
Tipping your head, poke your chin forward as far as possible. Hold for 5 seconds then return to your starting position.

Retraction
Pull your head back to make a ‘double chin’. Hold for 5 seconds then return to your starting position.

Cervical Spine Posture in Normal Sitting
Demonstrate your normal sitting position. Hold this position for 5 seconds.

Cervical Spine Posture in Poor Sitting
Demonstrate how you sit when you sitting badly. Hold this position for 5 seconds.

Cervical Spine Posture in Ideal Sitting
Demonstrate your good sitting position. Hold this position for 5 seconds.

Sitting at a Computer
Ask the patient to sit on a chair as if they were typing on a computer. Hold this position for 5 seconds.
