Notes for Squat and Hop Tests
• Ensure the leg being assessed is straight when you start and stop a test.
• Subject may stabilise themselves in between repeats by placing non-testing leg on the floor.
• Subject must attempt to jump as high (vertically) as possible and control the movement when landing.
• Tester needs to conduct each squat/ hop test manually by pressing start (on the Screen) then using the space bar to stop. The test can be resumed (by pressing space bar) for the next repetition when the subject is ready.

Double Leg Squat
1. In this test the subject has to perform a double leg squat while maintaining hip, knee and ankle control. This should be completed for a minimum of 5 times.
2. The tester observes to make sure the subject is in position and not moving.
3. The tester starts the test.
4. After the window opens on the screen starting the test, the tester asks the subject to start their squat.
5. The subject performs a double leg squat and returns to their original standing position.
6. The tester should observe whether the subject has returned to their starting position and has stopped moving. If the subject is still wobbling, moving, or has lost their balance, then the repetition must be repeated. The tester will then stop the test for that repetition and repeat the process for the remaining repetitions.

Single Leg Squat Test (Right and Left Leg)
The subject will begin the test by conducting right leg squats followed by left leg squats. To perform a squat the subject will need to balance on one leg looking straight ahead with hands on hips, and the non-weight bearing leg extended from the hip slightly for counterbalance. Following this, the subject will need to squat down on one leg. The squat should be performed in a controlled manner low enough such that the knee goes beyond the toe line. This is counted as one repetition.

1. Once the subject is standing steadily on one leg the test will start the test.
2. After the time marker for the test appears on the screen, the tester asks subject to start.
3. The subject performs the squat and returns to standing position.
4. The tester observes whether the subject has returned to a stationary position and their data is stable. If the subject is still wobbling, moving or has lost their balance, then the test must be repeated.
5. The subject performs a total of 5 repetitions of the test for the right leg.
6. Once 5 successful repetitions are performed on the right leg, repeats steps 1 – 5 using the left leg.

Hop Test (Right and Left Leg)
The subject will begin the test by conducting right leg hops followed by left leg hops. To perform a hop the subject will need to balance on one leg looking straight ahead with hands on hips. The subject will then jump and land on the same leg with stability and control throughout the movement.

1. Once the subject is standing steadily on one leg the tester will start the test.
2. After the time marker for the test appears on screen, the tester asks subject to start.
3. The subject performs the hop (i.e. jumps and lands) and returns to standing position.
4. Tester observes whether the subject has returned to a stationary position and their data is stable. If the subject is still wobbling, moving or has lost their balance, then the test must be repeated.
5. The subject performs a total of 5 repetitions of the test for the right leg.
6. Once 5 successful repetitions are performed on the right leg, repeats steps 1 – 5 using the left leg.

Double Leg Box Drop (Right and Left Leg Lead)
In this test the subject is to perform a double leg box drop from a box of up to 50cm or 18in while maintaining hip, knee and ankle control. The subject is to repeat the test a minimum of 5 times. Please note that the Box Drop Test has been validated using a 50cm box. Do not use a box that is higher than 50cm or 18in as this may interfere with the accuracy of the data collected. If you do not have a box this high you can substitute for a smaller box however.

1. The subject will start on top of a box at the recommended height, standing with the right leg stretching forward (right leg leading) in front of the edge of the box.
2. The tester starts the test.
3. After the window opens on the screen starting the test, the tester asks the subject to begin.
4. The subject will drop off the box and land on both legs, and then regain a standing position on that leg.
5. The tester should observe whether the subject has returned to a standing position and has stopped moving. If the subject is still wobbling, moving, or has lost their balance, then the repetition must be repeated. The tester will then stop the test for that repetition and repeat the process for the remaining repetitions.
6. Repeat the test for a minimum of 5 successful times before repeating the test with the left leg leading.

Single Leg Box Drop (Right and Left Leg)
In this test the subject is to perform a single leg box drop from a box of up to 50cm or 18in while maintaining hip, knee and ankle control.

1. The subject will start on top of a box at the recommended height, standing on the opposite leg than the one to be tested, with the leg to be tested stretching forward in front of the edge of the box.
2. The tester observes to make sure the subject is in position and not moving.
3. The tester starts the test.
4. After the window opens on the screen starting the test, the tester asks the subject to begin.
5. The subject will drop off the box and land on the leg which was outstretched, and then regain a standing position on that leg.
6. The tester should observe whether the subject has returned to a standing position and has stopped moving. If the subject is still wobbling, moving, or has lost their balance, then the repetition must be repeated. The tester will then stop the test for that repetition and repeat the process for the remaining repetitions.
7. Repeat the test on the left leg.
