Low Back Live Assessment test protocol

Last Updated: Feb 9, 2020 07:30 PM UTC
In a dorsaVi Professional Suite Low Back Live Assessment the following movements can be tested. Any pain experienced during the session can be recorded on a 0-10 scale by selecting a number on the right hand corner of the screen during the movement which caused the pain (0 being not painful at all, and 10 being extremely painful).

For all tests, use the “Start Capturing” and “Stop Capturing” buttons located at the bottom right hand corner of the screen to start and stop recording the movement data. NOTE: If Auto Capture is ON you will not need to start and stop capturing for flexion, left and right lateral flexion and extension movements.

Flexion
  1. Ask the client to stand upright and flex forward as far as comfortable without bending the knees, hold for 2 seconds and then return to standing position.
  2. Repeat this movement for as many repetitions as you require.

Extension
  1. Ask the client to fold their arms across their chest and stand upright.
  2. Ask the client to bend back (extend) as far as comfortable and then return to standing position.
  3. Repeat this movement for as many repetitions as you require.

Lateral Flexion (Left and Right)
  1. Ask the client to stand upright with their arms along the sides of their body.
  2. Ask the client to bend sideways (flex laterally) and slide their arm along their leg as far as comfortable while avoiding any flexion / extension, hold for 2 seconds and then return to standing position.
  3. Repeat this movement for as many repetitions as you require.

Standing Pelvic Tilt
  1. Ask the client to stand upright with their hands on their hips.
  2. Ask the client to tilt their pelvis forward (anteriorly) and then backward (posteriorly) in a controlled manner. It may help to say “Make an arch in your back and then flatten your back”. Ensure the client does not move their trunk.
  3. Repeat this movement for as many repetitions as you require.

Sitting Slouched
  1. Ask the client to sit in a chair and slouch as they usually would.
  2. Once the client is sitting in a slouched posture, capture the position in dorsaVi Professional Suite for at least 5 seconds.

Sitting Usual Sitting
  1. Ask the client to sit in a chair (ideally a desk chair) in their usual sitting posture.
  2. Once the patient is sitting in their usual sitting posture, capture the position in dorsaVi Professional Suite for at least 5 seconds.

Sitting Upright
  1. Ask the client to sit in a chair in an upright posture.
  2. Once the client is sitting in an upright posture, capture the position in dorsaVi Professional Suite for at least 5 seconds.

Sitting Pelvic Tilt
  1. Ask the client to sit in a chair with their back unsupported and in an upright posture.
  2. Ask the client to place their hands on their hips and tilt forward (anterior) and back (posterior). The client must attempt to initiate and control the movement from their pelvis while avoiding any trunk movement.
