NOTE: This protocol needs to be followed accurately to ensure the validity of test results. Ask the subject to perform practice tests for Single Leg Squat Test and Hop Test before recording test data.
Bilateral Squat
In this test the subject has to perform a double leg squat while maintaining hip, knee and ankle control. Throughout the test the clinician should observe whether the client has returned to their starting position and has stopped moving. If the client is still wobbling, moving or has lost their balance then the repetition must be repeated.
- Before starting the test, ensure the client is in position and not moving.
- Press the “Start Capturing” button and ask the client to perform their squat.
- After the client returns to their starting position, press “Stop Capturing” to complete the repetition.
- To perform additional repetitions, repeat steps 1 – 3. To move onto the next test, select the “Next” button.
Squat (Left and Right Leg)
In this test, the client will need to balance on one leg looking straight ahead with hands on hips, and the non-weight bearing leg extended from the hip slightly for counterbalance. The squat should be performed in a controlled manner low enough such that the knee goes beyond the toe line.
- Before starting the test, ensure the client is in position and not moving.
- Press the “Start Capturing” button and ask the client to perform their left leg squat.
- After the client returns to their starting position, press “Stop Capturing” to complete the repetition.
- To perform additional repetitions, repeat steps 1 – 3. To move onto the next test, select the “Next” button to move to the right leg.
- Repeat steps 1 – 4 for the right leg.
Hop (Left and Right Leg)
In this test, the client will need to balance on one leg looking straight ahead with hands on hips, and the non-weight bearing leg extended from the hip slightly for counter-balance. The client will then jump and land on the same leg with stability and control throughout the movement.
- Before starting the test, ensure the client is standing steadily on one leg.
- Press the “Start Capturing” button and ask the client to perform their left leg hop.
- After the client returns to their starting position, press “Stop Capturing” to complete the repetition.
- To perform additional repetitions, repeat steps 1 – 3. To move onto the next test, select the “Next” button to move to the right leg.
- Repeat steps 1 – 4 for the right leg.
Notes for Squat and Hop tests
- The client may stabilize themselves in between repeats by placing their non-testing leg on the floor.
- The client must attempt to jump as high (vertically) as possible during the hop test and control the movement when landing.
